TENT OF DREAMS GETS A PERMANENT HOME

A Secure Future at Tent of Dreams!

Tent of Dreams was a school that we established in five tents among Lebanon’s refugee community. After four years, it’s now been moved to permanent premises – with a fully equipped playground.

Catching up with the curriculum

In 2022 we launched Tent of Dreams: five classroom tents, with a teacher and class of 30 children in each one.

Our teachers planned a ‘catch-up’ curriculum which would prepare the children to return to traditional school when circumstances allowed. It covers Quranic studies, Islamic manners, Arabic, English, and Maths. We also provided a free breakfast every day, plus all the stationery and equipment that the pupils needed.

Term after term, attendance and results proved that our informal school setup was really working!

Meet the children

Elaf is 7 years old, and most of her memories come from Akkar, where her family came to stay after being displaced from Syria. They couldn’t afford to send Elaf to school until they heard about Tent of Dreams and quickly enrolled her. “Elaf quickly distinguished herself with her quick understanding and creativity,” says her teacher. “Every day at school deepens her maturity and love of learning.”

Ali’s mum is alone, in difficult circumstances, and jumped at the opportunity to send her son to the Tent of Dreams. He’s proven to be one of the smartest pupils, scoring 19/20 in his final tests in both Maths and Quranic Studies. “With each day, his excellence grows,” says his teacher – and his mum anticipates a bright future.

A permanent home

This year, we were delighted to bring the Tent of Dreams to a permanent home: a gated complex with a secure playground for the children (furnished, of course, with swings and see-saw).

It’s a proud moment for the team which has worked hard to create a safe and inspiring environment for the 150 children who attend ToD.

It costs £400 per year to educate one child (including daily breakfast and school stationery). You can support this project at the link below!
