NEW MOSQUE IN SYRIA
By : Nimat Uddin, on June 23, 2026
A new mosque built by donors
Our latest mosque provides valuable spiritual and social support to Palestinian and Syrian people in Yarmouk Camp, Syria.
The location: Yarmouk Camp, Damascus
Yarmouk is an established refugee camp in Damascus in Syria. Despite substantial damage between 2014-18, it has remained the largest in the country and is home to at least 15,000 Palestinian refugees.
Almost entirely “reduced to rubble” (UNRWA) during the Syrian Civil War, Yarmouk Camp has been partially rebuilt with help from international aid groups. But the community is still in need of lots of basic facilities.
Many neighbourhoods were left without their mosques and other essential services. The Al Nu’Man mosque was one of these.
The vision: A community and religious hub
Damaged in 2014, the derelict mosque occupied a 250m² plot in the camp. It was ruined in the conflict and completely unusable. Our partners helped us to draw up a plan to restore it as the vibrant heart of the local community.
The result: A beautiful new venue for prayer and study
As you can see, work on the mosque has been completed, and Al Nu’man mosque has opened its doors! It serves Syrian and Palestinian residents as well as displaced Syrians who are returning here.
The mosque has a generous prayer hall, accommodating 200–250 people for congregational prayer.
It will also provide religious education and Quran memorisation sessions. It’s not just a peaceful retreat from the world, but also a valuable spiritual resource for people living in Yarmouk Camp.
Sponsor the next mosque
You can help us to build a fully functional mosque, complete with a prayer hall and wash facilities, to serve a whole community.
You can sponsor a mosque in honour of a departed loved one, and you can choose the location. We are currently looking for sponsors in Ghana, Pakistan, and Uganda.
