Rebuild Syria

REBUILD SYRIA

August 2026: 3 million Syrians have returned home since opposition forces overturned the Assad regime, restoring stability and hope to the country that’s been in conflict for almost 14 years.

They’ve returned to scenes of devastation. Schools and health centres were destroyed. Water and electricity services are patchy or unusable. Entire neighbourhoods are demolished and unrecognisable.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

Syria will need significant international aid to recover.

Salam Charity has sent teams to support Syrian people moving home, giving them individual help to transport their things and repair their houses.

We’re also launching large-scale projects, rebuilding medical centres,
schools, and mosques to provide the foundations for a successful future.

  • £30 pays for one place in a mosque, which costs £16,000 to rebuild
  • £60 pays for a bulk box of groceries like rice, oil, onions, potatoes and lentils to feed a family of 4-5 for about a month

THE REALITY IN SYRIA

OUR PREVIOUS WORK IN SYRIA

Salam Charity’s shelter programme in Syria has been rebuilding homes for returning families since 2022. We renovated more than 30 homes, and another 32 during the mass return in 2025, hiring local plumbers and builders.

We have also been working to restore the education facilities, rebuilding large schools in Kefer Kermin and Kefr Nabl – between them, accommodating about 2,200 students.

CASE STUDY

RESTORING A MOSQUE IN AL-YARMOUK CAMP

In 2014, Al Hasan mosque was almost completely destroyed. Formerly occupying a 250m² plot, this community mosque was rendered unusable in conflict.

Our local team helped to draw up plans to restore this mosque and open it as the beloved heart of the community. In 2026 we completed work, including new windows, rewiring, sewage and water systems, new doors, plastering and painting. The mosque is now reopened with a spacious prayer hall. We want to restore more mosques, schools, and health centres to help Syrians rebuild their sense of community – please give whatever you can.
