OUR JORDAN DEPLOYMENT

Jordan Deployment Trip – September 2025

Last month, Salam Charity and JOHUD volunteers delivered vital support to vulnerable people in Jordan. We were honoured to be joined not just by our ambassador, Maher Zain, but also Princess Basma of Jordan.

Walking with a Princess

Our team of volunteers was joined by HRH Princess Basma (pictured, centre front) as we delivered food parcels in Madaba. Her Royal Highness is president of the Goodwill Campaign, with a focus on education, training and income opportunities.

Princess Basma also helped us to distribute e-learning resources for pupils from underprivileged families. She expressed her gratitude for support from Salam Charity, which has “significantly contributed” to her ongoing campaign.

The team travelled all week and delivered aid in Mafraq, Amman, Al-Kafrayn, Madaba and Jerash. Our deliveries included:

  • 150 food parcels (producing around 300 meals each)
  • 150 fans (providing relief from the heat)
  • Hot meals for 40 families (around 160 people)

A ‘Happy Day’ for orphaned children

Sharing our time and making connections are extremely important parts of any volunteer trip. That’s why our team ran a fun day for a local orphanage, including music, activities, and new clothes for more than 40 children. Living in poverty or affected by conflict, and coping with the loss of their parents, these amazing kids continue to inspire us.

“It was a life changing experience. Very humbling. It changed my perspective on life. It’s changed me as a person, and I’ve already signed up on my next deployment.” – Masuma

During the week, we also held community feedback sessions. We invited local families to meet with us and tell us about their experiences … and how we can help to improve their quality of living.

Some of these group discussions focused on women with new babies so we can make sure that future support is tailored to their needs. We distributed nappies and baby milk too.

A visit to Mind in Focus

In Jordan, mental disorders have increased by 279% in the past 30 years. Anxiety, depression and PTSD are common, especially among young people. To increase the provision of mental health services, we launched a psychosocial counselling programme called Mind in Focus in 2024.

It’s a 10-week programme of sessions for small groups (10 people) of men, women or young people. It’s designed to build coping skills and develop resilience, especially after trauma or abuse.

Last month, our volunteers paid a visit to find out how it’s helped people in the local community. Nada wrote about the experience in her volunteer feedback form:

“We all struggle in our own ways, and as human beings we all need someone to talk to, someone to listen to us, someone to just care… and the fact that Salam Charity does that for so many people is so beautiful. Who you are as a person when you’re struggling with your mental health, and who you are as a person when you’re in a good place, are two completely different people. It changes their lives and also saves them.” – Nada

Volunteer on the next trip

Our next deployments to Jordan are scheduled for December and April (2026). You don’t need any humanitarian or volunteering experience: you’ll be fully supported by Salam Charity staff (including briefings about all activities) before, during and after the journey.

Join us to deliver essential aid and see the impact you’re making. Register and start fundraising to secure your place!
