Qurbani FAQS

What is Qurbani?

Qurbani is the act of sacrificing an animal during Eid al-Adha, in remembrance of Prophet Ibrahim’s (AS) willingness to sacrifice his son for the sake of Allah (SWT). It’s a powerful symbol of faith, devotion, and charity—performed by Muslims across the world during the days of Dhul Hijjah.

Who should give Qurbani?

Every adult Muslim who is financially able (typically those eligible to pay Zakat) is required to offer Qurbani. It’s a way to show gratitude to Allah and to provide for those who often go without.

When should I donate?

You can donate your Qurbani any time before sunset on the third day of Eid (13th Dhul Hijjah). Early donations help us plan effectively and ensure timely delivery to families in need.

What animals can be sacrificed?

Acceptable animals include:

  • Sheep and Goats – minimum 1 year old (1 Qurbani share)
  • Cows and Bulls – minimum 2 years old (7 Qurbani shares)
  • Camels – minimum 5 years old (7 Qurbani shares)

All animals should be healthy, ethically sourced, and meet strict Islamic guidelines.

Where does Salam Charity distribute Qurbani?

We carry out Qurbani in the regions where it’s needed most—focusing on communities facing poverty, conflict (where possible) or displacement. Your sacrifice reaches those who rarely get to enjoy meat.
